Manchester United are keen on having the 23-year-old Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes in their ranks ahead of next season.

According to a report by the Mirror, Manchester United are looking to acquire the services of Joao Gomes in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Red Devils are looking to reinforce their midfield and they feel the Wolves midfielder will be an ideal fit for their new project.

Joao Gomes’ incredible rise at Wolves

Gomes came up the ranks at Flamengo before making a move to England in the winter of 2023. Wolves forked out £12 million to land the 23-year-old at the club. And, they were spot on with their investment as the Brazilian has gone from strength to strength since joining the Premier League club.

He has been a consistent performer for them and his impressive run hasn’t gone unnoticed. Multiple top clubs from across Europe are keeping a close eye on him and soon there could be a bidding war for him.

While his contract with Wolves runs until the summer of 2028 and there is an option of another 12 months, they could still sanction his departure if the right offer arrives. They have already started looking for a possible replacement as per the report.

Manchester United to push for Joao Gomes

Manchester United are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks. The Red Devils have been monitoring him since the start of the season. Their scouts have watched him in action on multiple occasions. They were present in the stand of the Molineux to watch him in action against Fulham in their 2-1 win earlier this month.

United feel he could be an ideal replacement for Casemiro who hasn’t been at his best this term. They are ready to offload the former Real Madrid star and are looking to replace him with his fellow Brazilian.

The Manchester-based club’s new leadership feels they need a young sensation who can complement Kobbie Mainoo in a new-look midfield. Gomes fits the profile the new United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is looking for. Ratcliffe doesn’t want to go big on stars, he wants to add quality without spending much.

The £40 million-rated midfielder is third in the Premier League list of most tackles made this season. His work rate and ball-winning abilities make him an ideal partner for United’s rising star Mainoo. As a result, they are keen on having him in their squad.
