Arsenal keen on Andriy Lunin

Arsenal could make a move for 25-year-old Real Madrid shot-stopper Andriy Lunin in the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to a report by Defensa Central, Arsenal are interested in the services of Andriy Lunin. The 25-year-old has been on fire in the ongoing season and his impressive performances for Real Madrid have resulted in interest from across Europe.

Real Madrid’s number one Thibaut Courtois suffered an ACL injury at the start of the season which forced Madrid into signing Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan. The Chelsea shot-stopper was signed to be the number one ahead of Lunin.

Lunin has been Ancelotti’s preferred choice in goal

But, the Ukrainian international has worked his way into the starting XI and has cemented his place in the team. Courtois was closing in on a return but he has suffered a knee injury in training which means his season is almost over. As a result, Lunin is expected to continue as Carlo Ancelotti’s number one.

While his impressive performances have helped Real Madrid dominate in Spain as well as Europe, his contract situation makes his future a bit uncertain. His current deal with Los Blancos runs out in the summer of 2025.

The team in white have already started making moves to extend his stay at the club. But, there are clubs keeping a close eye on his situation and could make a move for him in the summer if he doesn’t put pen to paper.

Arsenal looking to sign Lunin

Arsenal are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks. They signed David Raya on loan from Brentford last summer. Raya has taken over from Aaron Ramsdale as their number one and the Gunners are now set to trigger the buy option in his loan deal.

With Raya set to be their long-term number one, Ramsdale will push for a move away in the summer and the North London club hopes to make a good profit on his sale. They have started looking for a replacement and feel Lunin could be an ideal fit. He will not only cover for Raya but the 25-year-old will also challenge him for a place in the starting XI.

Mike Arteta’s team are ready to pay €20 million for his services and are willing to double his wages. They are ready to offer him a salary of €7 million per season. While Madrid are pushing for a renewal, with nothing certain yet, Arsenal are very much in the mix.
