Tottenham Hotspur are considering making the loan move of 28-year-old German forward Timo Werner permanent in the summer.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur could sign Timo Werner permanently in the upcoming summer transfer window. The 28-year-old has done a decent job since joining the North London club, and they are seriously considering the idea of making the move permanent.

Werner’s time at Chelsea and his return to England

Werner made a name for himself at RB Leipzig before joining Chelsea in the summer of 2020 in a big-money move. While he did win the UEFA Champions League with the Blues, the German international never really got going for the English club.

After a two-year-long stint full of struggle, Chelsea parted ways with him, and he ended up returning to Germany. He had a great first season during his second stint at RB Leipzig but unfortunately, he went down the pecking order in the second season.

He hardly got any game time in the first half of the 2023/24 season and ended up joining Tottenham Hotspur on a short loan. Spurs were looking for more depth in their attack, and Ange Postecoglou decided to bet on the 28-year-old.

They did not just sign him on a short loan but even managed to add a buy option of around £15 million in his contract. Since returning to the Premier League, he has featured in eight matches and has contributed towards four goals.

Spurs could sign Timo Werner permanently

It has been an impressive start for the German international at the English club, and his performances have forced them to seriously consider the idea of triggering the purchase option. Spurs are currently mulling over a permanent switch for Werner, who is determined to continue in England and prove that has what it takes to succeed in the English top flight.

The German forward is quite happy working under Ange Postecoglou and would love to carry on beyond the ongoing season. Eventually, his performances until the end of the season will play a big part in Tottenham’s decision.

As per reports, they will have to make that decision before the start of the Euros. While they are considering the idea of signing Werner permanently, even if they do sign him, Tottenham will still push for a top-quality striker in the summer.
