Juni Calafat has reportedly recommended a move for 22-year-old versatile Argentine attacker Thiago Almada to Real Madrid.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Thiago Almada might be the subject of interest from Real Madrid. Juni Calafat has set his sights on the versatile Argentine attacker. And Real Madrid’s chief scout is pushing Los Blancos to sign the youngster from Atlanta United in the summer transfer window.
Who is Thiago Almada?
Thiago Almada is a graduate of the Velez Sarsfield youth division, which has produced many highly-rated prospects in the last few years. These include Maximo Perrono, Gianluca Prestianni, and Almada himself. As for the 22-year-old, he rose in prominence after breaking into the first-team squad at Velez.
But instead of moving to Europe, he decided to join MLS club Atlanta United in February 2022, leaving many surprised. Since then, the versatile Argentine attacker has come leaps and bounds, establishing himself as one of the best players in the MLS, even though his team has not set the stage alight.
Almada has started the 2024 MLS season well, scoring once in three appearances, with Atlanta United seventh in the Eastern Conference standings. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, particularly from the Premier League. But a move to La Liga might be on the cards, with Real Madrid emerging as a destination.
Real Madrid Calling?
The Merengues do not have a concrete interest in Thiago Almada yet. But with Juni Calafat pushing for his signature, Real Madrid will likely pursue the 22-year-old in the summer transfer window. The chief scout has revolutionised the Real Madrid squad with his recommendations, which often prove elite.
Almada might be the next top-class addition to the Real Madrid squad. But he might have to bide his time to receive regular game time, with Los Blancos’ attack having a stacked look, especially if Kylian Mbappe completes his expected Bosman move this summer.
Nevertheless, Real Madrid should pursue Almada’s signature if Juni Calafat can convince the decision-makers. It will be interesting to see if the 22-year-old versatile Argentine attacker arrives at the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window.
