Barcelona will reportedly compete with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United for Ederson, who will cost €50 million this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ederson is the subject of interest from Barcelona. Premier League bigwigs like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United are also keen on signing the Atalanta midfielder. Meanwhile, the Serie A club will demand €50 million to part ways with the Brazilian enforcer.
Ederson’s Rise at Atalanta
Ederson Jose dos Santos Lourenco da Silva, better known as Ederson, has blossomed into a dominant midfielder since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in July 2022. The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A, especially in the ongoing campaign.
A box-to-box midfielder, the Brazilian enforcer can reprise different roles in the middle of the park, even being capable of playing as a holding midfielder. He has turned out 36 times thus far for Atalanta in the 2023/24 season, chipping in with six goals and one assist. Meanwhile, Ederson’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of high-profile clubs like Arsenal, Barcelona, Liverpool, and Manchester United.
A Man in Demand
Barcelona will delve into the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. Oriol Romeu has not set the stage alight since arriving from Girona and will likely leave in the summer transfer window. So several midfielders have emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with Ederson’s name also on the wishlist.
But Atalanta’s price tag might play a spoilsport, with the Serie A club demanding €50 million to part ways with the 24-year-old. Barcelona’s never-ending financial issues mean they might struggle to raise the funds to land Ederson’s signature. But that should not be a problem for Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United.
Premier League Calling?
Arsenal might part ways with Thomas Partey in the summer transfer window, and Ederson can potentially replace the Ghanaian international. As for Liverpool, they need a more recognised holding midfielder, meaning the Atalanta midfielder is not a viable target. But the Brazilian enforcer can potentially stitch a solid partnership with Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United.
The Atalanta midfielder is also a target for other Premier League bigwigs, including Tottenham and Newcastle United. All the English outfits can potentially pay €50 million without breaking a sweat. So, Barcelona might face a losing battle to secure Ederson’s signature this summer.
