Chelsea eyeing up a move for Gregor Kobel

Chelsea are keen on acquiring the services of the 26-year-old Borussia Dortmund shot-stopper Gregor Kobel.

According to Florian Plettenberg via Fichajes, Chelsea are looking to sign a new goalkeeper ahead of next season and they have their eyes set on Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel. The 26-year-old has been a consistent performer for the German club and there is interest in him from across Europe.

Gregor Kobel’s rise at Dortmund

Kobel joined Dortmund in the summer of 2021 after proving himself at VfB Stuttgart. He has gone from strength to strength since making the move and has been a mainstay in their goal over the past few years. The Swiss international’s impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

While he has over four years left on his deal at the German club, there is a possibility of a departure in the summer with some of the biggest clubs looking to bolster their goalkeeping position.

Chelsea’s desire to sign a new shot-stopper

Chelsea are one of the clubs that are looking for a new shot-stopper. They parted ways with Edouard Mendy and decided to send Kepa Arrizabalaga on a season-long loan last summer. Post that, they forked out £25 million to sign Robert Sanchez from Brighton to be their number one.

Unfortunately, that move hasn’t gone as expected. Sanchez has failed to live up to the expectations. They are considering parting ways with him. The Blues have begun the search for a new shot-stopper and Swiss star Kobel is on their radar.

His performances have attracted the attention of the London club who feel the 26-year-old could help them for years to come. As a result, they are willing to fork out between €50 to €60 million to land him in their ranks.

There are other top clubs interested in the Dortmund star but the Blues will look to flex their financial muscles to bring him to Stamford Bridge. While he is an important part of the German club and still has quite a few years left on his deal with them, it will be interesting to see what is their stance on his future.
