Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, a target for Liverpool.
A report from Football Transfers has claimed that Arsenal are ready to offer a €135,000-a-week contract to attract Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi. But the Gunners will face competition from Liverpool for the Real Sociedad star.
Zubimendi has a €60 million release clause in his contract, and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal are prepared to pay up. Real Sociedad will not want to let him leave for cheap and will likely demand for the release clause to be paid in full. Arsenal certainly have the financial resources to pay up.
Zubimendi would improve Arsenal, Liverpool
The Gunners need more quality and depth in the midfield unit, and Zubimendi should prove to be a quality acquisition. He has established himself as one of the best central midfielders in La Liga, and he has the physicality and technical attributes to do well in England as well. The Gunners are now ready to double his wages with a €135,000-a-week contract offer.
He will look to establish himself as a key player for the Gunners if the transfer goes through. Zubimendi could form a quality partnership with Declan Rice at the heart of the Arsenal midfield. The Real Sociedad midfielder is exceptional at controlling the tempo of the game and dominating midfield contests. He will add a new dimension to the Arsenal midfield next season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are keen on the player as well. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool follow up on their interest with an offer to sign the player in the summer. The Reds need midfield reinforcements as well, but they should look to focus on signing a defensive midfielder instead.
Liverpool already have a number of quality central midfielders at their disposal. With that said, Thiago Alcantara will be a free agent in the summer, and Liverpool will have to replace him adequately. It remains to be seen which of the two English clubs come forward with an offer for the €60 million-rated midfielder in the coming months.
The opportunity to move to the Premier League will be an attractive proposition for Zubimendi, and Arsenal and Liverpool are some of the biggest clubs in the world. The opportunity to play for them will be hard to turn down for the midfielder.
