Newcastle United will reportedly compete with Chelsea for 25-year-old Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Dean Jones on Give Me Sport, Aaron Ramsdale is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on signing a goalkeeper amid the injury troubles plaguing Nick Pope. The Arsenal goalkeeper is also a target for Chelsea heading into the summer transfer window.
Aaron Ramsdale and his Arsenal Journey
Aaron Ramsdale has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Arsenal from Sheffield United in a deal worth £30 million in August 2021. The English international arrived at the Emirates after suffering relegation from the Premier League in successive seasons with Bournemouth and Sheffield United.
But he dispelled all the doubts surrounding him by producing in his first two seasons at Arsenal. The 25-year-old was one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League in those campaigns. But Ramsdale’s fortunes have dwindled this term, as he has managed only 900 minutes of game time across ten appearances thus far.
So, it is hardly surprising that Ramsdale wants to leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window. The Englishman’s situation has piqued the interest of several well-known clubs, with Chelsea and Newcastle United keen on securing his services.
What Next for Ramsdale?
Reports this month have claimed that Aaron Ramsdale is a top target for Chelsea heading into the summer transfer window. Robert Sanchez faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge after failing to make his mark since arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion. The Arsenal outcast has thus emerged as a viable target for Chelsea.
As for Newcastle United, the Magpies have lost Nick Pope to a shoulder injury in the second half of the 2023/24 season. With Martin Dubravka and Loris Karius not being convincing enough in his absence. So, signing Ramsdale to compete with his compatriot Pope might be the ideal move for Newcastle United.
Apart from Newcastle United and Chelsea, AC Milan and West Ham United are also interested in signing the 25-year-old English international. But it will be interesting to see where Ramsdale lands if he leaves Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
