Manchester United have reportedly been linked with a move for 18-year-old Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino.

A report from Fichajes has claimed that Manchester United will have to pay £16 million to sign 18-year-old Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors.

Anselmino is highly rated in South America, and he could prove to be a solid long-term investment for Manchester United. He has the attributes to develop into a quality player and Manchester United could groom him into a top-class Premier League defender, thus explaining the recent enquiry.

Manchester United will have to sign a quality central defender in the summer, especially when Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans move on. Anselmino will certainly be attracted to the idea of competing in the Premier League, and Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world. The opportunity to join them cannot be turned down.

Meanwhile, the reported £16 million asking price seems quite reasonable for a club with Manchester United’s resources. They should be able to afford him easily. The defence is an area that is in need of strengthening in the summer.

Manchester United have looked vulnerable defensively, and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done. They are unlikely to be the only club keen on the Argentine sensation and the Red Devils must look to make their move quickly to secure his signature before the other rivals step up.

Aaron Anselmino would be a bargain at £16 million

The 18-year-old defender could prove to be a major bargain at £16 million if he manages to fulfil his tremendous potential in the coming seasons. He could easily justify the investment. Also, Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has a proven track record of nurturing talented young players into established first-team stars.

He helped groom a number of quality young players during his time at Ajax, and he could play an influential role in the development of the Argentine defender. Meanwhile, Manchester United are currently pushing for Champions League qualification and they are sixth in the league table. It will be interesting to see if they can finish the season strongly and secure their place in the European competition next season.
