Tottenham prefer Conor Gallagher move over James Garner

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with English midfielders Conor Gallagher and James Garner in recent weeks.

A report from Ben Jacobs on Give Me Sport has claimed that Tottenham prefer a move for 24-year-old Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher over 22-year-old Everton prospect James Garner.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs come forward with an offer for Gallagher at the end of the season. The Chelsea mainstay will be out of contract in the summer of 2025, and he has not signed an extension with the Blues yet.

Chelsea will not want to lose the Englishman as a free agent, and they could look to sell him at the end of the season if the two parties fail to agree on a contract extension. But he wants to sign a new contract with the West London club. The 24-year-old has established himself as a reliable performer in the Premier League, and he has been a key player for Chelsea this season.

Gallagher has impressed with his hardworking performances, and he has captained Chelsea quite a few times as well. He could be the dream acquisition for Tottenham in the middle of the park. Gallagher would be the ideal fit for their current style of play, and his pressing ability could be an invaluable addition to the midfield unit.

Both James Garner and Conor Gallagher would improve Tottenham

On the other hand, Garner is highly rated in the Premier League as well. He has been a key player for Everton, who will want to keep him at the club for as long as possible. The 22-year-old is likely to improve further with coaching and experience. The opportunity to join a big club like Tottenham could be an attractive proposition for him, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

Tottenham clearly prefer the Chelsea star over Garner, and the only way they could move for the Everton player is if they fail to land Gallagher. Tottenham are well placed to secure Champions League qualification for next season, and they will be an attractive destination for players if they finish in the top four. Gallagher and Garner could be tempted to join them in the summer.
