Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing Nico Williams, a target for Barcelona, as a potential summer acquisition ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
According to transfer insider Dean Jones via GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Nico Williams in the summer transfer window, with the 21-year-old one of the names on their wishlist for a new attacker at the end of the season. The youngster has a £43 million release clause, with Barcelona also interested in him.
Spurs were arguably the busiest Premier League side in the January transfer window, bringing in the likes of Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin, while Lucas Bergvall is set to head to North London in a £8.5 million switch from Djurgardens IF. However, the North Londoners remain a work in progress. And it appears that they will look to strengthen further in the summer.
The Lilywhites bolstered their attack ahead of the 2023/24 campaign by bringing in Manor Solomon and Brennan Johnson. Then, in January, Werner joined on loan from RB Leipzig, rounding out the attacking line that already included Son, Richarlison, and Dejan Kulusevski.
With 12 goals in 22 games this season, the South Korean international has been in incredible form; however, Spurs would be well to reinforce in wide areas, with the additional load of potential European football on the horizon next season.
Tottenham looking to sign Nico Williams; Pedro Neto, Raphinha also on radar
As such, Spurs have Pedro Neto, Raphinha, and Nico Williams “on their radar” as potential alternatives for the summer. Williams has had a tremendous season to date. He has five goals and ten assists in La Liga and the Copa del Rey. No one has provided more assists in La Liga than the young Spanish international this season.
He will add a different dimension for Tottenham from out-wide with his explosive pace, trickery, and penetration. So, he would definitely be a player Tottenham fans would love to watch. Postecoglou has worked wonders with a number of the players within his squad. And Nico Williams will be a seriously exciting addition to the ranks ahead of his second season at the helm.
But clearly, there is a lot of interest in Williams due to his form this season, and the £43 million release clause in his contract. Barcelona are also keen on signing the Spanish international in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Raphinha.
Tottenham, however, will be confident that they can rival anyone for the attacker’s signature given the progress that they have made since Postecoglou’s arrival. It will be interesting to see if Spurs can beat Barcelona to the £43 million-rated Athletic Club star.
