Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has reportedly been linked with a move away from the club heading into the summer.

According to a report from Fichajes, Serie A giants AC Milan are keen on signing 29-year-old Swedish international defender Victor Lindelof, and they could look to sign him from Manchester United at the end of the season.

Lindelof was expected to leave the club at the end of the season, but Manchester United decided to trigger a one-year extension in his deal. Recent reports had claimed that they were considering handing him a new contract.

The 29-year-old has a contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2025 now, and it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils are prepared to let him leave at the end of the season. AC Milan need to bring in defensive reinforcements, and the Swedish international could prove to be a useful acquisition for them.

Lindelof has had ample game time at Old Trafford this season because of Manchester United’s injury problems. However, he is unlikely to be a regular starter when the key players are back. He needs to move on to hold down a regular starting spot and focus on his football.

The opportunity to join AC Milan could be an interesting proposition for the defender, and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can agree on a reasonable fee. Manchester United signed him for €35 million several years ago and will likely demand close to that sum.

Manchester United should keep Lindelof at the club

Meanwhile, Manchester United need to bring in defensive reinforcements at the end of the season, and they will have to bring in upgrades on players like Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans. It remains to be seen whether they are prepared to sanction the departure of multiple defenders in one window.

Manchester United have other priorities as well, and they need to strengthen their midfield and attack. Signing more than one defender in the summer could be an issue for them. Holding on to the €35 million defender for another season would be ideal for them, even if he leaves as a free agent next year.

It remains to be seen how the situation unfolds over the next few months. AC Milan will hope to take advantage of his situation and sign the 29-year-old Swede on a bargain at the end of the season.
