Chelsea are interested in signing England international Aaron Ramsdale as the shot-stopper seeks departure from Arsenal.
According to HITC, Chelsea are keen on signing a new goalkeeper in the summer. The Blues are not happy with Robert Sanchez’s performances and looking to replace him. They have their eyes on Arsenal shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale who is looking to leave the club.
Chelsea want Sanchez out
Chelsea signed Sanchez in the last summer transfer window from Brighton for a fee of £25 million. He has been their number one since arriving at the club and has delivered a few impressive performances. But, he hasn’t been consistent enough.
The Blues don’t really believe that Sanchez could be their number one going forward and they are ready to sanction his departure. The London club have already started the search for a new shot-stopper and Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale is one of their target.
Ramsdale keen on a move
The England international hasn’t had the best of times in the ongoing season. He has fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta. Ramsdale was the number one last season but that’s no longer the case.
He did start the 2023/24 campaign as the preferred choice in goal but summer signing David Raya has taken over. While Arteta earlier suggested that the duo would battle it out for a place in the XI, it is quite clear by now that the Spanish international is ahead in the pecking order.
While Raya has joined them on a season-long loan from Brentford, there is an option to buy and that is expected to be triggered in the next summer window. With him expected to be the number one from here on, Ramsdale has no intentions of sticking around at the north London club.
He knows he is fighting a lost battle and is unlikely to be the preferred choice in goal anytime soon, as a result, the England international is looking for a way out. Chelsea are keen on having him in their ranks and making a move to the rivals could help his career but it will be interesting to see if he is willing to make the move.
