Arsenal will reportedly compete with Manchester United to sign versatile 18-year-old French attacker Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich.
According to a report by German outlet Sport BILD, Mathys Tel is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are in the market for an offensive reinforcement heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the versatile 18-year-old Bayern Munich attacker is also a target for Manchester United.
The Mathys Tel Tale
Mathys Tel has had to bide his time since joining Bayern Munich from Stade Rennais. A native of Sarcelles, the teenage wonderkid spent his formative years in France, passing through the academies at five clubs before graduating from the Stade Rennais youth division. The French prodigy’s progress at the Ligue 1 club did not go unnoticed, capturing the attention of Bayern Munich.

But the 18-year-old has had to bide his time for a spot in the starting lineup, especially after the arrival of Harry Kane last summer. Tel has six goals and four assists in 28 appearances but has managed only 736 minutes of game time at the Bundesliga club thus far this term.

Manchester United’s interest in Mathys Tel is understandable. The Red Devils will likely part ways with Anthony Martial in the summer transfer window. So, with Rasmus Hojlund the only other striker in the first-team squad, it behoves Manchester United to invest in an attacker, with the Bayern Munich forward emerging as a viable target.
As for Arsenal, Mikel Arteta’s team has thrived on versatility, with many pivotal figures capable of reprising multiple roles. Tel can compete with Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and Bukayo Saka due to his ability to play across the frontline. So, he is a viable target for Arsenal.
The versatile 18-year-old attacker will unlikely come cheap even if he pushes for a summer exit. His contract with Bayern Munich runs until June 30, 2027. So, Arsenal and Manchester United might have to break the bank to secure his services in the summer transfer window.
