Manchester United have extensively scouted Joao Neves on multiple occasions as the Portuguese midfielder appears like a firm target.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, Manchester United could further their interest in Joao Neves, as they have scouted the midfielder on multiple occasions. The Red Devils are seeking a top-draw midfielder in the summer, with the €100 million-rated Benfica star a key target.

Manchester United scout Joao Neves.

Joao Neves could become the next big sale that Benfica conduct in the upcoming summer window, with the €100 million-rated midfielder primed for a huge move. Many clubs are keeping close tabs on the Portuguese international, with competition set to intensify once the current season ends.

Manchester United have considered the midfielder as a critical target for next season, as the club are keen to sign one big midfield name in the summer. Neves has been on their radar for a considerable period, as Erik ten Hag feels the squad lacks a player of his profile.

Manchester United have already initiated discussions with the midfielder’s entourage, as there’s a feeling the price tag for the €100 million-rated may not deter them from the chase. They are aware of the rival interest, but with a regular presence in games, the Red Devils could seek to take an upper hand in the race.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Manchester United’s interest and insisted they have scouted the Portuguese star on multiple occasions. He also suggested that the midfielder’s situation is the subject of an ongoing discussion between Benfica and his agents.

Romano said, “Joao Neves’s situation will be discussed in the summer for sure between Benfica and the player’s agent. “Man United are being linked, but again, they still don’t have a director in place and are working on new signings/summer plan, as I mentioned many times.”

“So, all the names of clubs that are in the media are just for scouting. “Joao has been scouted multiple times by Man United; I already reported that in October/November. Nothing new so far.”

Will Benfica sell Joao Neves?

Like any talent the Portuguese side have produced in the last few years, their business model dictates extracting the best value for their best talents. Benfica have conducted plenty of significant sales over the previous 12 months, with the departures of Enzo Fernandez and Goncalo Ramos netting them massive revenues.

Manchester City are also interested in Neves, and with Manchester United and potentially many others set to intensify the race, Benfica are looking at a considerable fee in return. The price point for the midfielder may not come down, as the Portuguese side will be keen to extract the best market value possible and are protected by that €100 million release clause.
