Manchester United are keen on signing the LOSC Lille defender Leny Yoro at the end of the season.
The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the finest young defensive talents in European football and clubs like Real Madrid are on securing his signature as well. According to Spanish publication AS, Manchester United have now prioritised a move for him at the end of the season.
Yoro has already established himself as a first-team player for Lille and he has the quality to succeed in the Premier League as well. The 18-year-old has the defensive qualities and technical attributes to thrive in English football and he could prove to be the ideal long-term replacement for players like Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans. Both players have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford and Manchester United will have to bring in quality alternatives.
Real Madrid could be a more attractive destination
The Premier League side will face competition from Spanish giants Real Madrid and it remains to be seen whether they can beat Los Blancos to his signature. Real Madrid are widely regarded as the biggest club in the world and the opportunity to play for them can be hard to turn down for any player. They have a proven track record of competing for major trophies every season.
On the other hand, Manchester United are going through a rebuild and they have not been able to win major trophies since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Meanwhile, the defender is valued at €60 million and the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid certainly have the financial resources to pay the reported asking price. While it may seem like a premium right now, the Frenchman certainly has the potential to justify the investment in the coming years.
He will want to join a club capable of competing at the highest level and he must choose a project where he will get ample first team action. Yoro cannot afford to sit on the bench at a big club at this stage of his career. It will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.
