RB Leipzig believe Tottenham Hotspur will fork out €20 million to sign 27-year-old Timo Werner on a permanent basis.
According to SportBILD via SportWitness, RB Leipzig expect Tottenham Hotspur to sign Timo Werner permanently. The 27-year-old is currently on loan at the north London club and the German club feels Spurs will trigger the buy option present in his loan deal.
Werner returns to the Premier League
Werner made a name for himself at RB Leipzig before making a move to Chelsea in the summer of 2020. While he was a part of their Champions League-winning team, the German forward never really got going.
He parted ways with the Blues and returned to the German club in the summer of 2022. His return hasn’t been that great either and that is why he is currently on loan at Spurs. Werner went down the pecking order at Leipzig and Spurs struck a deal to sign him on loan.
The north London club parted ways with Harry Kane last summer and they went into the 2023/24 season without signing a replacement. While they did have a great start, Ange Postecoglou soon realised that he needed another quality forward to get through the season.
The Australian boss felt the former Chelsea star could be of great use to them. Even the player was keen on a move as he seeks regular first-team football ahead of the Euros in his own home country.
Spurs could sign Werner on a permanent basis
They went in and managed to strike a deal with the German club for the services of the 27-year-old. Spurs even managed to negotiate a €20 million buy option in his deal.
Since returning to England in January, the German international has featured in a total of five games and has managed to contribute towards two goals. He might not have lit up the world in terms of his numbers but Werner has had an impactful start and he has impressed Postecoglou for sure.
According to the report, Leipzig are confident that Spurs will trigger the €20 million buy option in his deal. It appears they have received signals from the North London club that suggest they are happy with him and are willing to make the move permanent.
