Liverpool Newcastle United and Tottenham are readying offers for Lloyd Kelly in the last month of the season as the Bournemouth star is set to leave on a free transfer.

According to HITC, Liverpool Newcastle, and Tottenham could battle it out for Lloyd Kelly in the summer, with the defender set to leave Bournemouth for free. Both clubs could negotiate a contract in the last month of the league season, as he offers a unique profile they are looking for.

Liverpool, Tottenham, Newcastle in Lloyd Kelly tussle

Tottenham strengthened their backline with the arrivals of Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie, with both defenders proving a resounding success in north London. An injury to the Dutchman tested Spurs’ backline as the club managed to bring Radu Dragusin as cover for him and Romero.

However, Postecoglou would want a specialist defender for the left-hand side who could also play left-back. Currently, Lloyd Kelly’s name stands out in the Premier League, as the 25-year-old defender can play in all two left-sided positions.

Tottenham and Liverpool were boosted by Kelly’s reported decision to leave Bournemouth in the summer, as his contract expires in June. Jurgen Klopp had identified the 25-year-old defender in the last months of 2023 when it became clear he could be available for a cut-price deal in January. The Cherries reportedly put up a huge asking price for a player with six months on his deal, which put off several sides.

With Klopp about to leave, Kelly still appeals to Liverpool from a strategic point of view. The Reds generally lack a left-footed centre-back in their ranks, and the 25-year-old defender could fill that void.

Liverpool and Tottenham could line up offers in the last month of the Premier League season as per the rules of Bosman contracts. Hence, the two sides could battle for the coveted Bournemouth star, with more sides likely to enter the chase.

Lloyd Kelly is uninterested in Bournemouth’s stay

A few months ago, it became increasingly clear that Kelly would not be keen to extend his deal at the club, and he has reportedly rejected multiple offers from Bournemouth since. There’s a clear pattern in his decision, as the 25-year-old defender certainly feels he could get a good deal as a free agent.

If he had signed a new deal, Bournemouth would have asked for a sizeable fee, which might have taken away the dream of playing for a top club, which he could get as a free agent. Newcastle United are also interested in him, as together with Liverpool and Tottenham, there’s an intense battle brewing for the defender in the background.
