La Liga champions Barcelona have reportedly made contact for Amadou Onana, a target for Arsenal and Chelsea, and set a price limit for him.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Amadou Onana is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Everton midfielder will cost around €60 million in the summer transfer window. But the reigning La Liga champions are only willing to fork out €40 million to secure his services. Meanwhile, Arsenal and Chelsea are also interested in signing him.
The Amadou Onana Story
Amadou Onana has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League since joining Everton from LOSC Lille in August 2022. A native of Dakar, the 22-year-old spent his formative years in Belgium and Germany and has chosen the former as his national side.
The Belgian international made his debut for the Red Devils in 2022 and has already turned out nine times for them. Meanwhile, Onana has made 59 appearances for Everton, chipping in with three goals and three assists. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, Arsenal, and Chelsea.
A Man in Demand
Barcelona’s interest in Amadou Onana is understandable, considering they are in the market for a holding midfielder to be Sergio Busquets’s long-term successor. The Everton midfielder has thus emerged as a viable target. And the Catalan giants have established contact over a move for the young midfielder. But they are hesitant to pay over €40 million to secure his services.
As for Arsenal, the Gunners are in the market for a midfielder amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian international has been injury-prone throughout his Arsenal stint, thus making him a liability despite his top-notch performances. So, it behoves the North London club to replace him, with Onana being an option worth considering.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Amadou Onana is perplexing, considering they signed multiple midfielders in the summer transfer window. The midfield unit does not need more additions, meaning Onana might get lost in the shuffle at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal and Chelsea have the means to afford to pay €60 million and meet Everton’s valuation of Onana. So, Barcelona might be in a losing battle unless they can raise the funds instead of the price limit they have currently set.
