Aston Villa defender Calum Chambers was reportedly expected to leave the West Midlands club on deadline day.

A report from Football Insider has claimed that Calum Chambers rejected three offers to leave Aston Villa on Deadline Day of the January transfer window. He will now stay and fight for his place at the West Midlands club.

Aston Villa reportedly wanted to get rid of the former Arsenal defender because he is not a part of their plans. However, Chambers was reluctant to complete a deadline-day move.

The 29-year-old has made just three appearances across all competitions this season, and he has not played a single minute of Premier League football thus far. Chambers needs to play more often at this stage of his career, and his decision to reject multiple offers to leave the club will certainly come as a major surprise.

It will be interesting to see if he can force his way into the starting lineup by working hard in training over the next few weeks. There is no doubt that he is good enough to play in the Premier League, and he is versatile enough to operate as a central defender as well as a full-back.

He could prove to be a useful squad player for Aston Villa if he manages to regain his form and confidence. Aston Villa are currently pushing for Champions League qualification, and they will need to do well during the second half of the campaign in order to finish in the top four.

The Villans need a deeper squad so that they can rotate their key players from time to time. Calum Chambers could be useful option to have. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops in the coming months.

If he fails to convince Unai Emery to give him more opportunities during the second half of the season, perhaps he would consider a summer exit from the club. It does not seem like he has a future at the West Midlands club, and a January exit would have been ideal for all parties.

Aston Villa have been quite active in the transfer market since the arrival of the Spanish manager, and they could have certainly used some funds from the sale of a fringe player like Chambers.
