Marcus Rashford has reportedly been lined up as Kylian Mbappe’s replacement at Paris Saint-Germain as the reigning French champions “consider plan B.”

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Paris Saint-Germain are watching developments and are set to reignite their pursuit of Marcus Rashford amid his troubles at Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford in a Rough Patch

After hitting a spectacular 30 goals across all competitions last season, Rashford penned a new long-term deal with a bumper wage rise at Old Trafford last summer. However, the England international has endured an underwhelming campaign this term, with just four goals to his name from 26 appearances in all competitions.

In addition, he has frequently found himself facing intense scrutiny of supporters over his poor body language on the pitch. His lacklustre performances have certainly not been helped by his off-field issues, as he yet again hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons during the last week.

The 26-year-old reported feeling ill and missed training last Friday, ahead of the FA Cup encounter against Newport County. It was then revealed that he was partying out in Belfast the night before, departing the Northern Irish city barely hours before his scheduled training at Carrington.

Rashford returned to training on Monday after being fined two weeks of wages amounting to £650,000, with Manchester United trying to put the incident behind them with an official statement saying “the matter is now closed.”

Paris Calling?

PSG are now looking to take advantage of uncertainty over Rashford’s Old Trafford future and offer him an enticing escape route. Reports have claimed that the French champions are considering a fresh move at the end of the season, having been long-term admirers of the England international.

It would not be the first time the French giants expressed an interest in the England star, who was on their radar before he renewed his contract. The difference this time is that PSG could soon find themselves without talisman Kylian Mbappe, who is out of contract in the summer and continues to be linked with a Real Madrid move.

While Rashford could be tempted by the prospect of being the main man in Paris, Manchester United are adamant in their resolve to retain the striker at the club despite his recent struggles. Rashford is not the only player on PSG’s potential Mbappe replacement shortlist, with Rafael Leao, Victor Osimhen, Erling Haaland, and Vinicius Jr. all namechecked in the report.
