Isak Hansen-Aaroen is reportedly set to seal a deadline-day move to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen after failing to agree new terms with Manchester United.

According to Andy Mitten on The Athletic, Manchester United are set to sell highly-coveted academy talent Isak Hansen-Aaroen, with Werder Bremen set to take the 19-year-old away from Old Trafford in the final hours of the January window.

Isak Hansen-Aaroen Wants a New Adventure

The Norway Under-21 international’s contract at Old Trafford lasts until the end of this season, meaning the January window is the last chance for the club to command a significant transfer fee for his departure.

If the 19-year-old was to depart at the end of the season on a free transfer, Manchester United would still be recouping some form of compensation owing to FIFA youth development regulations. While the deal is on the verge of being finalised today, there is no other information on the negotiations, something Norway’s TV2 has chipped in with.

The move is likely to be a permanent departure, while Manchester United have also inserted favourable terms, including significant add-ons, a high sell-on clause, and matching rights, in the deal. The Norwegian midfielder is set to fly today and undergo a medical in Germany before the transfer window slams shut.

The 19-year-old relocated to Carrington Academy from first-division Norwegian side Tromso back in August 2020 as a 15-year-old and signed his first professional contract with the club a year later.

He had been in negotiations for a new contract with Manchester United, who wanted to tie down the Norwegian teenager to a four-and-a-half-year deal. But the terms did not come close to the packages he was offered from Werder Bremen. The player was also frustrated by the lack of first-team opportunities, and the talks broke down.

Germany Calling

Hansen-Aaroen has not been short of interest, with a host of top clubs signalling an interest in his signature. However, Werder Bremen came forward with an appealing pathway to the first team.

Werder Bremen are currently ninth in the Bundesliga table and are trying to rebuild their squad for next season with promising young talent, given they are well clear of the relegation places but well adrift off the European qualification spots.
