Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United suffer blow in their pursuit of Victor Orakpo

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have both suffered a major blow in their pursuit of 18-year-old Nigerian sensational Victor Orakpo.

According to Sébastien Denis, Nice have won the race for the services of Victor Orakpo. The French club have managed to defeat Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United in the race for the Nigerian sensation’s signatures.

Orakpo came into the limelight during an international tournament organised by Bayern Munich in 2022. His impressive performances caught the eye of quite a few clubs from across Europe. Since then top clubs have been keeping an eye on him.

The Magpies and Spurs are two clubs that have been have been monitoring the teenager since 2022. They were considering adding him to their ranks. Spurs parted ways with their star striker last summer and haven’t signed a replacement yet.

While they will most likely bring in a new number nine in the summer of 2024, they were looking at the 18-year-old as a long-term option. As far as Newcastle are concerned, they are looking to invest in young players to build a strong base for the future.

Orakpo is someone who could have helped them for years to come. But, unfortunately, neither of the English clubs can actually sign him because he has already penned down a deal with Nice. The French club were monitoring him, they made decisive moves quite early and are now in the final phase of the formalities of the transfers.

Nice saw the potential in him and brought him for a trial at the club. He managed to impress the people at the club and they decided to give him a long-term deal. The teenager will soon undergo his medical at the French club and post that we will have an official confirmation about the deal.

Given the kind of potential Orakpo has, he is not expected to be a part of their academy for long. The teenager could soon get the chance to showcase his talent for the French club’s first team. Apart from Newcastle and Tottenham, even Bayern Munich and AC Milan were linked but unfortunately for them, the Nigerian sensation’s future has already been decided.
