Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are interested in having the 24-year-old Atalanta midfielder Ederson in their ranks.
According to a report by Football Insider, Newcastle United would love to acquire the services of Ederson. The 24-year-old midfielder has been a consistent performer for Atalanta and his impressive performances have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe.
Ederson left Brazil in the winter of 2022 to join Salernitana. Over the next six months, he proved himself at the Italian club and earned a move to Atalanta. Since joining them he has featured in a total of 64 matches and has contributed towards nine goals.
Seven of those goal contributions have come in the ongoing season. He has featured in 27 matches and has racked up over 2,200 minutes. The 24-year-old is doing everything just right and that is why a club like Newcastle is keen on having him at their disposal.
The Magpies would love to add Ederson to their ranks in the ongoing transfer widow. But, they are not in the best of financial situations of late. They can’t afford him right now as he would cost around £30-40 million. But, they could return for the signatures of the former Brazil youth international next summer.
And, that is because they are preparing for life without Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazil international is subject to interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Real Madrid among others. These clubs could make a move in the summer.
The Magpies midfielder has a £100 million release clause in his contract that was penned down in October last year. While the deal runs until the summer of 2028, Newcastle want to cash in on the midfielder’s release clause. And they have already identified potential replacements.
Ederson is someone who prefers featuring as a central midfielder but he is well capable of featuring in a defensive role. He has showcased a lot of quality since the start of the 2023/24 season and has the potential of even getting better. As a result, he could be a great investment for the years to come.
