Newcastle United will not entertain any offers for Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson, while they are keen on signing Philip Billing.
According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Philip Billing is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are in the market for a midfielder and have set their sights on the 27-year-old Bournemouth star. Meanwhile, they have decided not to part ways with Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier.
Who is Philip Billing?
Philip Billing has established himself as one of the most underrated midfielders in the Premier League since Bournemouth returned to the top flight. The Danish international spent most of his formative years in his homeland but graduated from the Huddersfield Town youth division. But he rose to prominence after joining Bournemouth in July 2019.
The 27-year-old has been a regular for Bournemouth in the last four and a half years. He has made 180 appearances thus far for the Cherries, chipping in with 31 goals and 20 assists. Billing’s progress at the Premier League club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Newcastle United.
Newcastle United Want Philip Billing
The Magpies are in the market for a midfield reinforcement after losing Sandro Tonali to a ban due to infringements of anti-betting rules. In addition, Joelinton is a long-term absentee after picking up a potentially season-ending thigh injury. So, it behoves Newcastle United to invest in a midfielder in the January transfer window.
Recent reports have linked Newcastle United with Amadou Onana. But the Magpies have second thoughts about signing the Belgian international due to their Financial Fair Play woes. Philip Billing has thus emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United. Meanwhile, they have made their decision on the potential sale of English duo Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson.
Will Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson Leave?
Recent reports have linked the two English internationals with winter departures from St. James’ Park. Atletico Madrid considered signing Callum Wilson before Newcastle rejected an approach. The Magpies have also knocked back Bayern Munich, even though the Bavarians have personal terms verbally agreed with Trippier.
So, it will be interesting to see if the European bigwigs can prise the English duo away from Newcastle United. In addition, the Tyneside outfit will look to bolster the midfield unit by signing Philip Billing.
