Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has ruled out the possibility of Liverpool mainstay Thiago Alcantara joining Flamengo.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Thiago Alcantara might have been linked with Flamengo of late, but there is no possibility of the 32-year-old making the move to Brazil in the ongoing January transfer window. There are no negotiations ongoing, and the Brazilian club have other targets to focus on.

Thiago Alcantara and his Liverpool Story

Alcantara has had a mixed time at Liverpool since joining them back in 2020 from Bayern Munich. While Jurgen Klopp has given him his share of matches and he has certainly done well in those, injuries have not been kind to him.

Last season, he could only make a total of 28 appearances and racked up less than 2,000 minutes thanks to numerous injuries that he picked up over the course of the season. The story has gotten worse this time out as he is yet to take the field.

On top of that, his deal with the Merseyside club runs out in the summer of 2024. With just six months left on his deal, there is interest in the 46-cap Spanish international from across Europe. Liverpool are unlikely to offer him a new deal. As a result, they could even sanction his exit in the winter if there is a decent offer.

While several European clubs are interested in the 32-year-old, Brazilian club Flamengo have also been linked with the former Barcelona midfielder. Reports suggested that they were keen on bolstering their midfield and they felt Alcantara could have been an exceptional signing for them.

Fabrizio Romano talks about Thiago Alcantara links with Flamengo

According to Fabrizio Romano, these are just rumours. There is nothing going on between the Brazilian club and the Spanish international. There is no possibility of the former Bayern Munich midfielder moving to South America in the ongoing January transfer window.

No talks are being held between the two parties and reports of the Brazilian club’s board travelling to England to negotiate are nothing more than just speculation. Flamengo are focused on bolstering their defence, and they have their eyes set on Matias Vina. They are closing in on signing him, and it will soon be done and dusted.
