West Ham United have opened talks with Manchester City to sign unwanted midfielder Kalvin Phillips on a loan deal.
According to Sky Sports, West Ham United are engaged in talks to take Kalvin Phillips on a six-month loan deal from Manchester City. The £45 million Premier League winner has no place in Pep Guardiola’s side, with Hammers boss David Moyes eager to tie up a move for the England international ahead of rivals.
West Ham in talks to sign Kalvin Phillips
Kalvin Phillips’s future has become a significant subject in the media as a host of Premier League clubs are angling a move for England International. As things stand, the £45 million Premier League winner has no place in Pep Guardiola’s plans, with Manchester City very much open to letting him leave.
Guardiola recently admitted guilt at not being able to select Phillips regularly, with the £45 million acquisition making only six starts since joining in the summer of 2023. The midfielder remains keen on regular playing time and is open to joining a club where he can feature regularly ahead of the Euros.
West Ham have emerged as the latest contender for the midfielder, with the Hammers holding talks with Manchester City over a loan move. The Premier League champions might have preferred an outright sale but may concede letting Phillips leave on a loan deal.
David Moyes might have pushed for the move in the background, as he remains keen to add another influential midfielder to his ranks. The Hammers will hope for a quick conclusion to talks for the midfielder as they are aware of rival interest in the Manchester City star.
Manchester City set a high loan fee for Phillips
Some reports suggested Manchester City are seeking a massive loan fee from suitors who want to sign Phillips. Guardiola’s side are reportedly seeking between £5-7 million from interested parties to take the midfielder until the summer, which has resulted in Juventus bowing out of the race.
For the same reason, Newcastle United have abandoned the Phillips pursuit despite the Magpies emerging as the favourites to sign him. Manchester City are aware of the growing interest and will not reduce the asking price, knowing very well that sides like Tottenham are also keen and might end up paying the fee.
There’s also interest from Crystal Palace, although the London side could find themselves well behind other rivals like West Ham or even Newcastle United if the latter decides to revive their pursuit.
