West Ham United are reportedly among the front-runners to sign 25-year-old Dutch midfielder Joey Veerman from PSV Eindhoven.
According to a report by Dutch outfit Soccer News, Joey Veerman is the subject of interest from West Ham United. Fellow Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion are also interested in the 25-year-old midfielder. The two English clubs are in the pole position to sign him from PSV Eindhoven.
Who is Joey Veerman?
Joey Veerman spent his entire youth career and his professional playing life thus far in his homeland. A native of Purmerend, he represented RKAV Volendam and FC Volendam before graduating from the latter’s academy. But he rose to prominence during his two-and-a-half-year stint with Heerenveen.
PSV Eindhoven took note of the Dutch midfielder’s talent and secured his services in a deal worth €6 million in January 2022. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds, establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in the Eredivisie. The 25-year-old is enjoying an excellent 2023/24 season, contributing to 17 goals in 27 appearances thus far.
Veerman has found the back of the net five times while providing 12 assists, with his contribution proving pivotal in PSV Eindhoven’s exceptional start to the 2023/24 season. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many well-known clubs, including West Ham United.
West Ham United Want Joey Veerman
West Ham’s interest in Joey Veerman is somewhat surprising. The Hammers invested in their midfield unit in the summer transfer window, with James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez joining the East London club. But a closer look reveals West Ham can do with a new midfielder this year.
The Hammers are in a spot of bother over Tomas Soucek’s long-term future. Several midfielders, including Kalvin Phillips, have thus emerged on West Ham United’s radar. And Veerman is also a viable target, with his versatility making him an attractive option. The report has claimed that West Ham and Brighton lead the race to sign the 25-year-old Dutchman.
PSV Eindhoven will unlikely entertain any offers midway through the season, considering they are in the thick of the Eredivisie title race. So, West Ham might have to wait until the summer to land Joey Veerman. And it will be interesting to see if they can secure his services this year.
