2022/23 Serie A winners Napoli are reportedly interested in signing 24-year-old English utility man Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea.
According to a report by Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Tutto Mercato Web, Trevoh Chalobah is the subject of interest from Napoli. The Serie A champions are in the market for a centre-back in the ongoing transfer window. And they have set their sights on the 24-year-old utility man, who faces an uncertain future at Chelsea.
The Trevoh Chalobah Situation
Trevoh Chalobah was once among the most regular features for the Chelsea first team. The English utility man established himself as an asset for the West London club due to his versatility. But his stock has plummeted since Mauricio Pochettino departed from Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old has not featured thus far for Chelsea this season due to a hamstring injury. While he is closing in on returning to action, he will unlikely secure much game time when he is fit and available. So, Chalobah’s time at Chelsea will end soon, with the West London club already informing him of his fate.
The academy graduate has no shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, although Bayern Munich recently ruled out a move. But other clubs are keen on signing him, including those in Serie A. Trevoh Chalobah has now emerged as a target for reigning Italian champions Napoli.
Serie A Calling?
Napoli sold Kim Min-jae in the summer transfer window, and the South Korean international has left a gaping hole in the defensive unit. Leo Ostigard has struggled to fill Kim’s void, prompting the Serie A champions to scour the market for a centre-back. Recent reports have thus linked the Partenopei with many central defenders, including Jakub Kiwior.
But Trevoh Chalobah is also a viable target for Napoli as they look to reinforce the backline. But the 2022/23 Serie A winners also have other centre-backs on their radar, with the report mentioning Arthur Theate, Nehuen Perez, and Lilian Brassier.
Chalobah will be an attractive target for Napoli due to his non-existent future at Chelsea. It will be interesting to see if the Serie A champions beat the competition to secure his services before the January transfer window shuts down.
