West Ham United have hit a major roadblock in their pursuit of 26-year-old defender Max Kilman as Wolves do not want to sanction his departure.

According to Dharmesh Sheth via Give Me Sport, Wolverhampton Wanderers are not ready to part ways with Max Kilman amidst interest in his services from West Ham United. The Hammers are looking to bolster their defence in the ongoing transfer window, and they feel signing the 26-year-old Wolves centre-back could help their cause.

The Rise of Max Kilman

Kilman came up the ranks at Maidenhead United before joining Wolves in the summer of 2018. He has slowly made his way into their first team and is currently one of the mainstays of Gary O’Neil’s team. The 26-year-old was handed over the captaincy of the Premier League club before the start of the 2023/24 season after Conor Coady and Ruben Neves left in the summer.

The English centre-back has featured in each of their 20 Premier League matches and has not even missed a minute. He is the main pillar of O’Neil’s team, and his contract with Wolves runs until the summer of 2028 after he penned down a new deal in the recent past.

Despite having many years left on his deal and being one of the most important players of the Wolves first team, Kilman’s future has been uncertain of late as West Ham are interested in signing him. The Hammers feel he is an ideal candidate to bolster their defence and they are willing to push for him.

Will West Ham United Land Max Kilman?

But, according to Dharmesh Sheth, the Hammers will find it difficult to land the 26-year-old in the ongoing transfer window. Wolves have no intentions of parting ways with him, and he has a long deal with them. He is amongst one of the untouchables in their squad despite their weak financial position.

Wolves are often forced to sell players before making a move in the window. As a result, key players often end up parting ways with them. And, they are not really untouchables but it does depend on the kind of offer that is on the table.

While Wolves are hesitant about the idea of selling him, in the end, it might all come down on whether the Hammers really want him in this window. According to the report, West Ham will only make a move in January if one of their defender departs.
