Liverpool ahead of Manchester United, Newcastle United, Tottenham in Jean-Clair Todibo chase

Liverpool have taken the lead in the chase for Jean-Clair Todibo, who has a long list of Premier League suitors this month.

According to French outlet Nice-Matin, Jean-Clair Todibo could decide his future this month as he has many suitors to consider. Liverpool is considered the current frontrunner for the 24-year-old centre-back, with OGC Nice not ready to sell for anything under €60 million.

Liverpool lead in Jean-Clair Todibo chase?

The French outlet insists it’s Liverpool leading the chase for Jean-Clair Todibo as the Meryseiders continue to look for a new centre-back. The loss of Joel Matip to an ACL injury has reduced Jurgen Klopp’s options at the back, as the Germans are considering bringing in a new central defender.

Liverpool are eager to compete in every competition they are a part of and may not succeed with the current depth set at the back. Ousmane Diomande remains a target for them, but Jean-Clair Todibo has also come under consideration following some impressive performances for OGC Nice.

A host of other clubs like Manchester United might approach, as Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham are all interested in the €60 million-rated star. Spurs, for their part, have already confirmed the signing of Radu Dragusin, which might see them cool their interest in the Frenchman.

As for Manchester United, they might have hoped the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who owns OGC Nice, might have given them the upper hand in the Todibo race. However, Liverpool appear strong in the hunt and are well ahead of them or even Newcastle United, battling FFP problems.

Will Jean-Clair Todibo leave OGC Nice?

Earlier reports had stated a price tag of around €40 million or slightly over. Still, there’s a firm suggestion that OGC Nice will not accept anything below their valuation of €60 million. That could be the stumbling block for many clubs, considering the price might drop in the summer.

Moreover, the 24-year-old has a guaranteed spot at OGC, which is nice to consider and not take for granted, especially with the Euros on the horizon. Todibo has only played twice for the French national side and continues to harbour hopes of making it to Didier Deschamps’ squad, which might see him stay at the Ligue 1 side.

Yet, there are chances of making the big switch in January to one of the Premier League sides. He will have many options now or in the summer, as he might decide after considering multiple factors, which could also see him stay at OGC Nice.
