Fulham are reportedly interested in signing 27-year-old Turkish defender Caglar Soyuncu from La Liga club Atletico Madrid.

Caglar Soyuncu has been linked with the return to the Premier League, and Fulham are hoping to get a deal done before the January window closes. They will need to improve defensively if they want to finish in the top half this season. A report by AS has claimed that they are “tempting” the 27-year-old regarding a winter move.

The Caglar Soyuncu Story

Soyuncu has played in the Premier League before with Leicester City, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition. The Turkish international has struggled for regular game time at Atletico Madrid, and a move away would be ideal for him. He needs to play more often at this stage of his career, and returning to the Premier League would be an attractive proposition for him.

He knows the Premier League well and should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact. Fulham are a competitive club with an impressive squad. The opportunity to play for them regularly could be hard to turn down for the 27-year-old central defender.

Given his standing in the Atletico Madrid squad, he could be available for a reasonable outlay as well. Fulham must prioritise signing a central defender before the window closes. They have already conceded 35 goals in 20 league matches and are 13th in the league table with a negative goal difference.

Fulham Need a Centre-Back

It is one area that is in need of major improvement, and it will be interesting to see if Marco Silva can sign the necessary players this month. Although a move from Atletico Madrid to Fulham would be a major step down, the 27-year-old Turkish defender does not have a choice, and it would certainly be better than sitting on the bench at a big club.

It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can negotiate a transfer before the January window closes. Fulham could easily secure a top-half finish if they manage to finish the season strongly, and the right additions in January could help them turn things around and climb up the table quickly quickly. They have looked quite impressive going forward but need to get rid of their defensive frailties now.
