Serie A club Bologna will not part ways with 22-year-old Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee, a target for Arsenal and Manchester United.
According to a report by Football Transfers, Joshua Zirkzee is a popular figure in the transfer market. Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in signing the 22-year-old Bologna striker. But the Serie A outfit will not entertain any offers for the youngster in the January transfer window.
The Joshua Zirkzee Story
Joshua Zirkzee has established himself as one of the best young strikers in Serie A since joining Bologna from Bayern Munich. The Dutchman is a graduate of Bayern Munich’s youth division but could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Allianz Arena.
The 22-year-old finally found a stable foothold after joining Bologna in August 2022. Zirkzee has come leaps and bounds in the 2023/24 campaign, amassing eight goals and four assists in 22 appearances across all competitions thus far. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed.
A Striker in Demand
Several Premier League bigwigs have set their sights on the Dutch striker. Recent reports have linked the young attacker with Newcastle United. But he is also a target for Arsenal and Manchester United, who want to sign him in the ongoing transfer window.
Arsenal recently joined the race to sign Joshua Zirkzee. The Gunners want to sign a striker who can add some much-needed goals to their offensive unit. But they are not getting that from first-choice striker Gabriel Jesus, who has struggled to contribute with the desired productivity in the final third. The Bologna attacker has thus emerged as a viable target for Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Zirkzee stems from Rasmus Hojlund’s struggles in the Premier League. In addition, Anthony Martial has entered the final six months of his contract and will leave Manchester United as a free agent in the summer. So, it behoves the Red Devils to sign a replacement. But Bologna will not sell the in-demand 22-year-old in the January transfer window.
The Red and Blues are in contention to finish in the top four in Serie A this season. So, it is hardly surprising they do not want to part ways with Joshua Zirkzee. Arsenal and Manchester United thus need to wait until the summer to land the Dutchman.
