Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have reportedly entered the race to sign 22-year-old Bologna attacking sensation Joshua Zirkzee.

According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Arsenal are interested in having Joshua Zirkzee in their ranks. The 22-year-old striker has been in sensational form of late, and his performances for Bologna have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. Meanwhile, the Serie A club will demand £50 million to part ways with him.

The Joshua Zirkzee Resurgence

Zirkzee joined the youth ranks of Bayern Munich in the summer of 2017 from Feyenoord. He went up the ranks and made it to their first team in the summer of 2020. The 22-year-old featured in a total of 17 matches for the German club and even contributed towards four goals.

He had a few impressive loan spells post that and ended up joining Bologna in the summer of 2022 for a reported £7 million. Zirkzee has gone from strength to strength since joining the Serie A club and has contributed towards 16 goals in 43 outings.

The 22-year-old has 12 goal contributions in his 22 outings this season. His impressive rise and exceptional abilities have not gone unnoticed and Arsenal are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks.

Arsenal Keen on Joshua Zirkzee

The Gunners have made significant progress under Mikel Arteta, but they lack firepower up top. Despite having quality strikers at their disposal, they lack goals. And, with Gabriel Jesus picking up yet another injury and the future of Eddie Nketiah at the club uncertain, Arsenal need a new number nine, and they are monitoring Zirkzee for that role.

The 6ft 4in striker will bring in specific qualities neither of their forwards have, and his aerial prowess will make them a lot more threatening from set pieces. While Arsenal are keen on adding Joshua Zirkzee to their ranks in the ongoing window, Arteta has already claimed that it is unrealistic to expect the arrival of a new striker in the winter.

Meanwhile, Bologna have no intention of selling him in midway through the season. As a result, Arsenal will most likely make a move in the summer, and they will have to fork around £50 million to sign the 22-year-old.

While the Gunners are keen on his signatures, Bayern Munich will have a headstart if they decide to re-sign him. There is a release clause in his contract only valid for the German giants. And, there are other clubs interested in the services of the Dutch youth international as well.
