Barcelona will reportedly look to bring down the asking price of €115 million for Bruno Guimaraes by offering a part-exchange deal.
According to a report by Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Bruno Guimaraes is the subject of interest from Barcelona. But the reigning La Liga champions are in no position to afford his release clause of €115 million. Instead, the Blaugrana will look to bring down the valuation by offering a part-exchange deal.
The Rise and Rise of Bruno Guimaraes
Bruno Guimaraes has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since joining Newcastle United from Lyon. The Magpies were in the doldrums when the Brazilian international arrived at St. James’ Park. But he nearly helped take them from the relegation zone to the top half of the Premier League table in the second half of the 2021/22 season.
The 26-year-old has been a talismanic figure for Newcastle United in the last two years. In addition, he has risen in stature on the international stature, featuring regularly for Brazil. Meanwhile, Guimaraes has turned out 86 times thus far for the Tyneside club, chipping in with 11 goals and eight assists.
The former Lyon midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs in Europe. Recent reports claimed that Paris Saint-Germain had joined the race to sign Bruno Guimaraes. But he is also a target for reigning La Liga champions Barcelona.
Barcelona Keen on Bruno Guimaraes
Barcelona’s interest in the Newcastle United talisman is understandable, considering Oriol Romeu has struggled to set the stage alight since arriving from Girona. The Spaniard is only a short-term option for the Blaugrana, who will likely enter the market in the summer transfer window for a long-term successor to Sergio Busquets.
Bruno Guimaraes is thus a viable target for Barcelona. But the Brazilian international has a release clause worth €115 million in his contract with Newcastle United. That complicates matters for Barcelona, who will offer a part-exchange deal to sign him.
But Newcastle United are not interested in entertaining any approaches for the 26-year-old. So triggering the release clause and shelling out €115 million might be the only way to secure his services.
