Jadon Sancho has rejoined Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on loan from Manchester United until the end of the 2023/24 season.
In an official statement, Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Jadon Sancho has rejoined them on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season. The agreement with Manchester United does not contain a purchase option, meaning he will return to Old Trafford in the summer.
Jadon Sancho and his Manchester United Frustrations
Jadon Sancho has struggled to assert himself since joining Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund. The Red Devils had shelled out a whopping €85 million to secure his services. But the English international failed to hit the ground running and was a shell of the player that dominated the Bundesliga.
Instability at Old Trafford has not helped him, and his performance levels have consistently dropped. Things have gone from bad to worse under the tutelage of Erik ten Hag, even though the Dutchman tried to help him last season. But a run-in with ten Hag meant Sancho managed only 76 minutes of game time in three appearances this term.
The Manchester United manager banished him from the first-team picture, and he has been waiting for the January transfer window to depart from Old Trafford. Several clubs showed interest in the 23-year-old. But he had his heart on rejoining Borussia Dortmund, with the move seeing the light of day. Sancho has now expressed his delight at returning to Germany.
He said, “When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like ‘coming home’. I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here, and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge. I can’t wait to see my teammates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.”
Looking to Resurrect his Career
Jadon Sancho will be at Borussia Dortmund until the end of the 2023/24 season, with the loan move expiring in the summer. Incredibly, Manchester United will pay a major portion of his wages. Meanwhile, the deal does not include a purchase option. It will be interesting to see if the beleaguered Englishman can resurrect his stuttering career in the Bundesliga.
