Borussia Dortmund are reportedly set to welcome winger Jadon Sancho to their winter training camp in Marbella, Spain, on Friday as his loan return from Manchester United edges closer.

According to football journalist Christian Falk, Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho is packing his bags to return to his former club Borussia Dortmund on loan for the rest of the season and could meet his BVB teammates as early as Friday, when he could arrive in Spain for their mid-season training camp in Marbella.

Dortmund have been working on a deal to re-sign Sancho from Manchester United in recent days. According to an update from Bild, the two clubs finally thrashed out a deal on Wednesday for the winger to spend the next six months on loan in Germany.

Dortmund will pay Man Utd around €3 million for Sancho’s loan and will also have to cover some of his above wages, with reports of it being less than half of his €300,000-per-week salary, while Man Utd will continue to pay the chunk of it.

United bought Sancho from Dortmund for a whopping £73 million in 2021, but his spell has been a major disappointment as he never really got going at Old Trafford.

In total, he had made 82 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring just 12 goals, before being exiled by Erik ten Hag after he publicly criticised the Dutch manager and accused him of unfair treatment. He has refused to apologise since, marking the end of his United spell.

There is likely to be a clause that could see Sancho return permanently to the Bundesliga side where he previously starred and was among the very best in Europe in terms of goal contributions and ball carries. Football Insider claims the buy option is set at around £25 million, meaning a return would see United take a huge hit on the troubled 23-year-old.

His sharp drop in stock is due to his discipline issues at Old Trafford and the fact that he has hardly kicked a ball for much of the current season, with United desperate to get rid of his disruptive influence.

Sancho’s transfer represents yet another poor judgement by The Glazers, and INEOS will be hoping to avoid such financial blunders in the transfer market in the future.
