Aston Villa have reportedly been linked with a move for 30-year-old AS Roma defender Leonardo Spinazzola recently.

We covered reports earlier that Aston Villa had been offered the chance to sign Leonardo Spinazzola from AS Roma. But reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the West Midlands club are not working on a deal to sign the 30-year-old.

Leonardo Spinazzola in Search of a New Adventure

Leonardo Spinazzola has fallen out of favour at AS Roma, and he has been linked with a move away from Italy. A move to Aston Villa would have been an interesting opportunity for him. But the Premier League side are not keen.

Lucas Digne has been linked with a move away from the Midlands club in recent months. It will be interesting to see if Unai Emery decides to cash in on the Frenchman in the coming weeks and pursue a replacement.

Aston Villa Flying in the Premier League

Aston Villa have done quite well this season, and they are currently pushing for UEFA Champions League qualification. If they want to compete at this level consistently, they should look to improve their squad and bring in talented players.

While Spinazzola has proven himself for club and country in recent years, he is approaching the twilight stages of his career, and Aston Villa should look to aim higher. They need to sign a talented young defender Instead. It will be interesting to see where the Italian international ends up eventually.

There is no doubt that Aston Villa would have benefited from his leadership qualities, experience and defensive ability. However, they need to think about the future and invest in a young player with higher potential.

Aston Villa could certainly use defensive reinforcements this month. They are currently second in the league table but have conceded 27 goals in 20 league matches. They will have to tighten up at the back to stay in the top four and qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

The Villans have put together a formidable squad under Unai Emery, and with a couple of quality additions, there is no reason why they cannot compete for major trophies in the coming seasons.
