La Liga club Villarreal will reportedly look to sign Facundo Pellistri this month, with Manchester United open to parting ways with him.
According to a report by The Sun, Facundo Pellistri is the subject of interest from Villarreal. The Spanish outfit had considered signing him in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Manchester United might sanction the departure of the 22-year-old before the January transfer window shuts down.
Facundo Pellistri at Manchester United: The Story So Far
Facundo Pellistri has struggled to establish a foothold at Manchester United since arriving from CA Penarol in October 2020. The Uruguayan international has barely started any games for the Premier League heavyweights, with several attackers ahead of him in the pecking order. But that has not been the case for his national team, as he has made 18 appearances for La Celeste.
The 22-year-old has managed only 349 minutes of game time thus far this season across 13 appearances, chipping in with one assist. But Pellistri’s stock remains high, with several clubs interested in signing him, including La Liga outfit Villarreal.
La Liga Calling?
Villarreal considered signing Facundo Pellistri in the summer transfer window. But a move to La Liga did not materialise, with Manchester United keeping hold of the young prospect after Amad Diallo picked up a knee injury that has hampered his 2023/24 campaign thus far.
But with Amad regaining fitness and closing in on returning to action, Pellistri’s days at Old Trafford have become numbered. So, a belated move to La Liga might be on the cards, with Villarreal again showing interest in securing his services.
A permanent deal might be on the cards, although Manchester United will not rule out a loan move either. But a move to Spain should benefit Facundo Pellistri, who showed his potential during his two loan stints with Deportivo Alaves, thus gaining experience in La Liga.
Manchester United’s stance on Pellistri’s potential sale is surprising, considering reports a few months ago suggested a new contract might have been on the horizon. But with the 22-year-old Uruguayan prospect struggling to establish a foothold at Old Trafford, returning to La Liga by joining Villarreal might be his best option.
