Manchester United want to renew the contract of 21-year-old Uruguayan international Facundo Pellistri on a priority basis.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are looking to agree on a new deal with Facundo Pellistri. The 21-year-old winger is an exceptional talent, and the Red Devils want to secure his future with a long-term deal.

Pellistri came through the ranks at Penarol before joining Manchester United in 2020. The 21-year-old has been a part of their first team ever since he joined them. But, he has not had much game time and has been away on loan at Deportivo Alaves twice.

The Uruguayan international has gone from strength to strength over the years. But, he did not really have many opportunities at the senior level to prove himself. However, things did change during the FIFA World Cup 2022, where he featured for his national and produced some exciting performances.

While his performances did not get him much game time at Manchester United in the second half of the season, things could change this time around. The 21-year-old could end up being the first-choice right-winger at the club.

Jadon Sancho has recently had a rift with Erik ten Hag and is unlikely to be an important player under the Dutch manager from here on. The situation of Antony is a bit more complicated, with the Brazilian winger surrounded by domestic abuse allegations. His return from the international break has been delayed.

As a result, Pellistri could have quite a few minutes in the 2023/24 season. With the 21-year-old set to be an important player under ten Hag, the Red Devils want to get his contract situation sorted as soon as possible.

Manchester United are well aware of his potential and the kind of talent he has and have been in talks with the player’s representatives regarding a new deal since April. With the transfer window now done and dusted, United’s priority is to offer him a new long-term deal.

His current contract runs out in the summer of 2025, and Manchester United do not want the 21-year-old to enter the final year of his deal. As a result, they want it sorted as soon as possible. According to Romano, the talks over a new long term deal will advance soon.
