La Liga giants Sevilla are reportedly in advanced talks with Chelsea over a possible deal for 21-year-old Ivorian attacker David Datro Fofana.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, David Datro Fofana is the subject of interest from Sevilla. The Andalusian giants have taken no time to advance talks to sign the 21-year-old striker. Chelsea will terminate his loan deal with Union Berlin before shipping him off to La Liga.
David Datro Fofana at Chelsea: A Tale of Frustrations
David Datro Fofana garnered much hype and fanfare when he joined Chelsea from Molde FK last January. The Ivorian striker barely featured for the West London club in the second half of the 2022/23 season. But his exploits for Molde helped him draw comparisons to Chelsea legend and compatriot Didier Drogba.
However, with game time coming at a premium for Fofana, it was hardly surprising when Chelsea loaned him to Union Berlin in the summer transfer window. But the move has not paid off for the 21-year-old, who has struggled to stamp his authority at the Bundesliga club thus far this season.
The young attacker has managed less than 1,000 minutes of game time, scoring twice and providing one assist in 17 outings. So, Fofana’s stint with Union Berlin will end this month, with Chelsea set to terminate his loan deal. But the Blues will not re-integrate him into their first-team squad, as a move to La Liga is on the cards.
Sevilla Calling?
Reports on Friday claimed Sevilla had joined the race to sign David Datro Fofana in the January transfer window. And the Andalusian giants have taken no time to accelerate their move for the 21-year-old attacker. Fabrizio Romano has claimed that talks between Sevilla and Chelsea have advanced.
Sevilla will be without Youssef En-Nesyri due to his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco. In addition, Mariano Diaz faces an uncertain future at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium. So, it is hardly surprising that the Andalusian giants want to sign Fofana.
David Datro Fofana might not be the only Chelsea player moving to Sevilla, with Los Nervionenses also showing interest in Marc Cucurella and Malang Sarr. But the 21-year-old Ivorian striker will likely be the first to arrive at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium as they look to resurrect their stuttering season.
