Tottenham Hotspur’s desired move for Conor Gallagher is in trouble due to Financial Fair Play issues, with Chelsea demanding £60 million to sell him.
According to a report by Football Transfers, Conor Gallagher is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The North London giants are keen on signing the Chelsea mainstay, valued at £60 million, this month. But Financial Fair Play issues mean they might not land the English international.
Conor Gallagher and His Rise at Chelsea
Conor Gallagher has established himself as a mainstay in the midfield department for Chelsea since returning from his loan stint with Crystal Palace. A graduate of the West London club’s fabled youth division, the 23-year-old had to bide his time to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge.
The English international grew in stature last season but has seen his stock rise further this term. Gallagher has even donned the captain’s armband for Chelsea in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell this season. The player has turned out 23 times thus far, chipping in with four goals.
But Gallagher has entered the final 18 months of his contract with Chelsea, leaving the club in a spot of bother. So, Chelsea might consider cashing in on the Englishman, although Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep hold of the player. Meanwhile, he has emerged as a target for London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Keen on Gallagher: Can They Sign Him?
Tottenham’s interest in Conor Gallagher stems from the upcoming departures of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr for the Africa Cup of Nations. But in the long run, the Chelsea mainstay will replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the first-team squad at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
But recent reports have claimed that Tottenham will only sign Gallagher if they part ways with Hojbjerg. But the North London club’s move for the English international has run into troubled waters. With Chelsea demanding £60 million to sell Gallagher, they cannot afford him due to Financial Fair Play concerns.
Tottenham cannot play anywhere close to £60 million to sign Conor Gallagher this month. So, with Pochettino keen on keeping the 23-year-old at Stamford Bridge and the player ready to continue his stint with Chelsea, a winter move will unlikely see the light of day.
