Manchester United could turn their attention towards a low-cost loan signing with striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting linked.

According to The Athletic, Manchester United are considering an approach for Bayern Munich’s 34-year-old striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in January. Despite links to some high-profile, younger names, the Red Devils might revisit their previous approach of signing a low-cost loan option in the winter market.

Manchester United keen on Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting

Manchester United are looking for a new striker, and there’s no doubt about it. The club have signed forwards in the winter market before and could repeat a familiar trick of bringing in a low-cost loan option instead of someone with a considerable price tag.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting emerged as a target for the Red Devils, as per the report, as the 34-year-old could fill in the temporary role that Erik ten Hag seeks. The 73-cap international striker has enough experience at the topmost level to help Manchester United with their objectives.

The Red Devils have seen links to some pricey names in the market. Viktor Gyokeres remains a target, as well as some ambitious names from elsewhere. There are doubts whether the club can fork out big bucks in a conducive environment, as they were slapped with a small fine back in the summer.

Choupo-Moting could become a good solution for them, as they have previously done similar loan deals for strikers before. Last season, they brought in Wout Weghorst, and back in 2020, they managed to loan Odion Ighalo, but neither move worked in their favour from a sporting sense.

Can Choupo-Moting leave Bayern Munich?

Having seen links to players like Joshua Zirkzee, Manchester United may have decided against spending big on a striker in January. Hence, they are pondering a loan idea with Choupo-Moting, with the forward in an excellent position to seek a new challenge,

The arrival of Harry Kane has limited the Cameroonian’s game time, with England International unlikely to concede his position barring a significant injury issue. Hence, Choupo-Moting might take a potential enquiry from Manchester United in all seriousness and consider a move.

He’s probably coming to the end of his journey in a few years and may want to experiment again with English football. A move to Manchester United will mark another big scalp for the Cameroonian, who has played for some illustrious sides like Bayern and PSG in the past.
