Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on their first January signing in the form of 21-year-old Genoa defender Radu Dragusin, who is set for a €30 million switch to North London.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, Tottenham are in talks with Genoa over a move for star centre-back Radu Dragusin and are “moving quickly towards” sealing a €30 million transfer for the Romanian defender. Discussions have opened between the two teams, and the 21-year-old wants to join the Premier League club.

Tottenham’s Urgency to Sign a Centre-Back

Tottenham started the season in fine form as they stormed to the top of the table after winning eight of their first ten matches. But their form has been a mixed bag since the start of November, with the team suffering defeat in five of their last nine top-flight encounters.

The centre-back pairing of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven was particularly critical to their success. However, they have endured struggles at centre-back lately, with van de Ven and Romero both out injured.

Romero is expected to be out for another month after being forced off with a hamstring strain at half-time during the win over Everton. But van de Ven could return in around a fortnight’s time after his own hamstring issues.

Ben Davies has slotted in admirably for both players. But apart from the Welshman, Postecoglou has also had to deal with injuries to summer signing Ashley Phillips and out-of-favour veteran defender Eric Dier.

However, both players were on the bench as the Australian tactician opted to use right-back Emerson Royal centrally against Brighton as Spurs conceded four goals on the south coast to snap their three-match winning streak.

Radu Dragusin on Tottenham Radar

It appears that Dragusin will be the man to fix their depth issues, with the Romanian international impressing in Serie A after helping Genoa reach the top tier with promotion from Serie B last season. The former Juventus defender has racked up 18 appearances this campaign and even chipped in with two goals.

Dragusin not only delivers in the short term, but the 21-year-old also has the potential to blossom into an excellent long-term option for Postecoglou’s team. Reports in Italy state that the defender has also been on the radar of AC Milan, Napoli, and Inter Milan. But Tottenham have been in pole position to land his signature all along and could now move swiftly to get a deal over the line in the early days of the winter transfer window.
