Carlo Ancelotti reportedly wants Real Madrid to sign 24-year-old Italian international Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Carlo Ancelotti is a fan of Alessandro Bastoni. The Real Madrid boss is pushing for a move for a centre-back for one of the two transfer windows in 2024. And he wants Los Blancos to secure the services of the 24-year-old Inter Milan defender.
The Rise of Alessandro Bastoni
Alessandro Bastoni has established himself as one of the best defenders in Serie A since breaking into the first-team squad at Inter Milan. The Italian international has been with the Nerazzurri since 2017 but has come into his own since the 2019/20 season.
The 24-year-old gradually rose in stature at San Siro and played an instrumental role in helping Inter Milan win the Serie A title in the 2020/21 season. He was also a pivotal figure as Italy won the UEFA Euro 2020. Meanwhile, Bastoni has seen his market value soar to €60 million in the last few years.
Bastoni has turned out 183 times thus far for Inter Milan, chipping in with three goals and 14 assists. Meanwhile, the player’s progress in the last few years has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs, one of those being Real Madrid.
Real Madrid Calling?
Real Madrid will delve into the market for a centre-back in one of the two transfer windows next year. Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, and Nacho are on the wrong side of 30. In addition, Nacho is in the final year of his contract with Real Madrid and might depart as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Alaba will return from a long-term knee injury next season, which might hamper his performance. So, it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a centre-back who can be Eder Militao’s long-term partner. Alessandro Bastoni is thus a viable target for Los Blancos. And Carlo Ancelotti wants Real Madrid to sign the 24-year-old former Serie A winner.
Giorgio Scalvini is another centre-back on Real Madrid’s radar. Like Bastoni, Scalvini is a target for Ancelotti. The Real Madrid manager is even open to completing a move in the January transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see if a deal for either Bastoni or Scalvini sees the light of day next year.
