Arsenal could plot a surprise move for Sergi Roberto ahead of next month when the Barcelona utility enters the final six months of his deal.

According to Sport, Arsenal might consider an approach for Sergi Roberto in January as a measure to shore up their squad. The Barcelona utility man will enter the final six months of his deal at the club and evaluate offers from elsewhere.

Sergi Roberto is a bargain market option.

Some of the top clubs will enter the January window looking at some bargain signings that could become available. Sergi Roberto will have plenty of eyeballs around him if he decides to leave Barcelona and try out a new adventure elsewhere.

The 31-year-old has seen sporadic game time this season but still managed to score twice in five La Liga appearances. The Barcelona utility man has been signing rolling one-year deals, but he could leave the club in 2024.

With his contract expiring in six months, the club might prefer to sell him for a modest fee rather than lose him for free. A few clubs, like Juventus and Inter Milan, are keen on the versatile star. Still, he reportedly would also prefer a move to England, specifically London, a city he apparently loves being in.

Now, Arsenal emerged as a suitor for Roberto, as Mikel Arteta could attempt to bring the Spaniard to help him out with a title race.

Would Sergi Roberto succeed at Arsenal?

Arteta might look at Roberto and think about the similarities in playing style at both clubs, which makes the Barcelona utility man a superb, short-term acquisition. Moreover, there’s a considerable chance the Spaniard will understand the method at the Emirates faster, which could help the team out in so many ways.

Roberto can play different positions, as he has continuously shown over the years. Arteta loves this kind of player, who can replace a midfielder, attacker or defender. Arsenal have shortages in each of those departments and can make do with the Barcelona utility man.

There’s a big chance for the Gunners to sign the experienced star on the cheap and make him a part of the side for the immediate future. It’s a deal similar to that of Jorginho from Chelsea last season and could have a significant impact in the second part of the season.
