Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing the Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

A report from DefensaCentral claims that the 24-year-old goalkeeper is unhappy with the lack of playing time and he would be open to a move.

Newcastle need to bring in a quality goalkeeper, especially with Nick Pope sidelined with an injury. Newcastle have had to use Martin Dubravka in the absence of the former Burnley goalkeeper and the experienced Newcastle shot-stopper has been quite underwhelming.

It was evident that Newcastle will have to bring in a quality goalkeeper next month and Lunin would be a superb option.

The Ukrainian goalkeeper will be desperate to prove himself at a high level and the opportunity to play in the Premier League can be quite tempting. He will want to establish himself as a regular starter in the Spanish league and the opportunity to showcase his ability in England during the second half of the campaign would be ideal for him.

If he manages to impress with Newcastle during the second half of the campaign, he could get more opportunities with Real Madrid next season.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper needs to play at this stage of his career and it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds. Leaving a club like Real Madrid can be quite difficult for most players but Lunin will have to focus on his development for now. He cannot afford to sit on the bench for weeks.

The goalkeeper has a contract with the Spanish club until the summer of 225 and he will enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season. Real Madrid could look to sell him for a nominal price in the summer if Lunin does not wish to continue at Santiago Bernabeu.

Newcastle are going through a rough patch right now and they need to bring in the right reinforcements during the January window in order to finish the season strongly. They will be desperate for Champions League qualification and it remains to be seen whether they can plug the gaps in their squad during the January transfer window. Apart from signing a quality goalkeeper, they should look to focus on signing a striker as well.
