Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio, a target for Arsenal and Liverpool, in January.

According to a report by Record via Sport Witness, Newcastle United are looking to advance their move to sign Goncalo Inacio. The 22-year-old defender has been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool as well.

Newcastle United Keen on Signing Goncalo Inacio

The defender has a €60 million release clause in his contract, and it is highly likely that Sporting CP will demand the clause to be paid in full. Recent reports have claimed that Newcastle are ready to pay up for the versatile defender.

The 22-year-old is highly rated across Europe and he has a big future ahead of him. He will want to play for the biggest clubs in the world, and the opportunity to move to the Premier League can be an attractive option.

Inacio has already proven himself in his homeland, and a move to England would be the ideal step up for him right now. Newcastle will have to bring in a quality long-term partner for Sven Botman, and Inacio would be an upgrade on players like Dan Burn and Fabian Schar.

The Magpies managed to secure UEFA Champions League qualification last season, and it remains to be seen whether they can secure a top-four finish this year as well. They have an ambitious project and Inacio could be tempted to join them. Meanwhile, Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on the player as well.

Competition High for Inacio’s Signature

The 22-year-old could be the ideal long-term partner for William Saliba, and he could sort out the Arsenal defensive unit for the foreseeable future. At Liverpool, he would be the ideal replacement for Joel Matip, and his ability to operate as a full-back will allow Liverpool to use him as a backup option to Andrew Robertson.

All three clubs have the financial resources to pay €60 million for the defender, and he certainly has the potential to justify the investment in the long run. Inacio is only 22, and he is going to get better with coaching and experience. Managers like Eddie Howe, Mikel Arteta, and Jurgen Klopp have a proven track record when it comes to nurturing young players and they could help him fulfil his potential.
