Arsenal will be better placed than Manchester United to sign 22-year-old Everton midfielder Amadou Onana next year.
According to Dean Jones on Give Me Sport, Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in Amadou Onana. But a move for the Everton midfielder in the January transfer window will unlikely see the light of day. Meanwhile, the Gunners are better positioned than the Red Devils to land the Belgian international.
Amadou Onana At Everton: The Story So Far
Amadou Onana is one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League. The 22-year-old has been a solid performer for Everton since arriving from LOSC Lille in a deal worth £33 million last year. In addition, he has also risen in stature on the international stage with Belgium, making nine appearances thus far.
The Belgian international has turned out over 50 times thus far for Everton, chipping in with three goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Onana’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester United.
Arsenal, Manchester United Vying for Onana
Arsenal’s interest in Onana is understandable, considering the uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian international has become a liability for the North London club due to his fitness issues. So, Arsenal might part ways with him and bring in a replacement, with the Everton midfielder emerging as a target.
As for Manchester United, the Red Devils will unlikely extend Sofyan Amrabat’s stay at Old Trafford beyond the 2023/24 season. In addition, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen face uncertain futures at the club, with at least one of them likely to leave next year. So, it behoves Manchester United to invest in a holding midfielder, with Amadou Onana emerging as a viable target.
Meanwhile, Everton can recoup much more than the £33 million they paid to secure his services last year from his sale. Dean Jones has claimed that Arsenal might be better positioned than Manchester United to land Amadou Onana next year.
