Tottenham will reportedly not let Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave on loan in January and have slapped a £20 million price tag on his head amid strong interest from Serie A clubs.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham do not want to allow Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to leave the club on loan without a buy option inserted, with Serie A giants Napoli and Juventus both interested in his services.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at Tottenham: The Story So Far
The 28-year-old has been a midfield stalwart for Spurs since joining the club in 2020. He has racked up 163 appearances for Spurs across all competitions and has been capped 73 times by Denmark, which goes on to show his vast experience in the game.
However, he has fallen down in the pecking order following the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as manager in the summer. The Dane has made 17 Premier League appearances this term, most of them coming off the bench.
He has been linked with a departure from Tottenham throughout the season, and the fact that he is about to enter the final 18 months of his contract means the rumours are not going away, especially with the January transfer window around the corner. Juventus and Napoli are both interested in enquiring with Tottenham about a possible loan deal to take Hojbjerg to Serie A.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Serie A?
The Bianconeri are currently scouring the market for midfield reinforcements to make up for the deficit in the middle of the park after losing the services of Nicolo Fagioli and Paul Pogba through respective suspensions. Meanwhile, Napoli will be without key star Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa during the Africa Cup of Nations.
Hojbjerg could be the answer for either of them. But Tottenham will not let him leave on loan without there being an obligation to buy attached. The Lilywhites’ midfield is going to be much more depleted than the aforementioned Serie A outfits during the AFCON, which will feature Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.
But Tottenham are not entirely opposed to Hojbjerg’s exit if they can find a suitable replacement. So, they will ask for a fee of £20 million to sanction the sale of the Danish international. Such a fee would see Spurs make a profit on their initial £15 million investment to sign him from Southampton back in 2020 and help fund a move for someone else to come in and take his place in their squad.
